WHAT ADAM AND EVE DID NOT KNOW HURT THEM

THERE HAS MUCH THOUGHT BEEN GIVEN AND MANY WORDS WRITTEN AND SPOKEN ABOUT ADAMS GREAT MENTAL ABILITIES AND HIS KNOW HOW IN THE EARTH THAT THE LORD GAVE HIM DOMINION OVER.

HOWEVER I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT SOMETHING THAT IT SEEMS HE DID NOT KNOW OR IF HE DID KNOW IT, HE DID NOT USE THE KNOWLEDGE.

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT ADAM DID NOT KNOW THAT HE WAS A SON OF GOD!!!

YOU MIGHT ASK WHERE AND HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT CONCLUSION?

THE FOLLOWING THOUGHTS ARE WHAT LED ME TO THIS CONCLUSION.

THERE IS A TEACHING IN THE CHURCH THAT IS BROUGHT ABOUT BY ONE VERSE THAT SEEMS TO BE MISUNDERSTOOD. THE VERSE IS AS FOLLOWS:

Genesis 3:8 And they heard the sound of the “LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day”, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

THE TEACHING IS THAT GOD CAME EVERY EVENING IN THE COOL OF THE DAY AND FELLOWSHIPPED WITH ADAM AND EVE. I BELIEVE THAT FATHER GOD WANTED TO DO THAT AND WOULD DO THAT; HOWEVER NO WHERE IN THE SCRIPTURE CAN I FIND WHERE IT SAYS THAT HE DID.

WHAT IS STATED IS THAT AFTER THE FALL THAT THE LORD CAME TO SEE ABOUT HIS SON.

THERE IS A VERSE THAT SAYS THIS:

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you,—-.

THEN YOU FIND THIS THOUGHT IN SEVERAL PLACES:

2 Chronicles 15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT IS REQUIRED THAT ADAM AND EVE SEEK THE LORD FOR FELLOWSHIP RATHER THAN THE OTHER WAY AROUND. I DON’T SEE IN ANY OF THE WRITINGS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT OR THE NEW TESTAMENT THAT THEY DID THIS.

MY CONCLUSION FROM THIS IS THAT ADAM AND EVE DID NOT KNOW WHO THEY WERE. THIS IS WHY THEY DID NOT USE THE DOMINION THAT THEY HAD TO RESIST THE TEMPTATION OF THE SERPENT IN THE GARDEN.

JESUS RECEIVED ASSURANCE AND CONFIRMATION OF HIS IDENTITY FROM OUR FATHER AT THE JORDAN:

Matthew 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

IF ADAM AND EVE HAD FELLOWSHIPPED WITH FATHER EVERY EVENING IT WOULD SEEM THAT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE STABLE AND SURE OF THEIR POSITION AS A SON THAN IT APPEARS THAT THEY WERE. IF THEY WERE SURE OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS EASILY DECIEVED AND MISLED BY THE QUESTIONING OF THE SERPENT!

WE CAN SEE A DIFFERENCE IN JESUS ON THE MOUNT OF TEMPTATION AND ADAM AND EVE IN THE GARDEN.

Matthew 3:16-17 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Matthew 4:3-4 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”  But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

JESUS WAS NOT MOVED BY THE QUESTION “IF YOU ARE THE SON OF GOD” BECAUSE HE WAS SURE OF HIS IDENTITY, HE DID NOT HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING TO THE TEMPTER. IF YOU ARE SURE OF WHO YOU ARE YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO SOMETHING TO PROVE IT.

THE SERPENTS QUESTION Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?

THIS QUESTIONING WAS EFFECTIVE BECAUSE ADAM AND EVE DID NOT FULLY KNOW OR UNDERSTAND THEIR IDENTITY.  I THINK THAT THIS WAS BECAUSE THEY HAD NOT FELLOWSHIPPED WITH FATHER IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THEIR IDENTITY AS SONS OF GOD.

Genesis 3:4-5 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

IF ADAM AND EVE HAD FELLOWSHIPPED WITH FATHER THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BELIEVED THE SERPENT WHEN HE SAID “GOD KNOWS”, THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT THE LORD THOUGHT OR KNEW BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN WITH HIM AND HAD RECEIVED UNDERSTANDING FROM FATHER THAT THEY WERE ALREADY IN HIS IMAGE AND LIKENESS. THERE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CONCERN THAT MAYBE FATHER WAS HOLDING OUT ON THEM AND THAT THEY WERE BEING SHORT-CHANGED.

THEY WOULD HAVE REALIZED THAT THE SERPENT WAS LYING AND THAT THEIR EYES WERE WELL OPENED BECAUSE THEY HAD HEARD THE WORD OF THEIR FATHER AND UNDERSTOOD THEIR RELATIONSHIP AS SONS.

IF THEY HAD FELLOWSHIPPED WITH FATHER AS HAS BEEN TAUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SURE OF THE DOMINION THAT WAS ALREADY THEIRS AND WOULD HAVE USED IT TO TELL THE SERPENT TO “LEAVE, THIS IS OUR GARDEN, YOU HAVE NO PLACE HERE!”

  1. It is good how you are bringing Adam and Eve out of the “religious storybook” and placing them in a position of responsibility. I believe the church has protrayed them like characters in a play, yet they were the beginning of PEOPLE; thus they acted like people and made decisions like people…and had to discover who they were…just like the rest of us people..Thank you for brining us into the reality of their actions and challenging us to move from the “fairy tale” protrayal of them. 2. I totally agree with you that Adam and Eve did not know who they were… and it hurt all of us!!

Something I’ve been thinking on is that in Romans it says that because of Adam’s sin sin entered the world. Why didn’t it say through Eve’s sin? Technically, she sinned first.

  3. Jeanie,

I appreciate your comments and your questions.

Here is what I understand about what you have asked.

    First a scripture.

2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent “deceived” Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Adam had heard the word direct from the LORD:

Ge 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
16 ¶ And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

It would seem that Adam was responsible for giving the word to Eve.

Being deceived because you don’t fully know or understand is one thing but having heard as Adam did and not doing is another.

Now lets look at it another way. Maybe when Paul in Romans says Adam, perhaps he has in view mankind as a whole and is not referring to Adam the individual man.

These are my thoughts that came up as I read your question.

  4. Looking at Paul Speaking to the Romans, was His purpose in
Life to Speak Christ. Same is to be spoken today. Christ is
not to be simplicity, but He is the Head of the
Church! Col 1:18 That being True it was Adams responisibility to communicate to Eve, a father to communicate to his children. Wow! Every minister that
proclaims Christ is to communicate Christ; the Son of God,
that was’t ashame to call us His brethren!. (Keep speaking
the truth. 1Cor 1:16) Christ was formed in Him and his speaking the WORD, was to enable believers to have Christ
formed in them. Thank you for the stirring of His Spirit!
